Belews Lake Fishing Trips 2012
10/22/12     6:30am - 11:45am     Fish Caught - 2     Water Temp - 71
I went straight to the Buffetville cove and before it got light I caught the first bass. I was throwing a buzzbait when the first bass hit it but I missed it. I threw the buzzbait about a half dozen more times then I tied on a spinnerbait and on the first cast I caught the first bass. I fished almost the entire Buffetville cove and then I went to the pond cove and didn't get anymore bites. I left the pond cove and went up to the hot hole and the temperature was only two degrees difference from the lower part of the lake. I left the hot hole and went back down the lake with intentions of fishing the dam where I normally fish it but someone was already there so I turned into the cove just before the dam. After about thirty minutes in this cove I was finally able to land one more bass with the spinnerbait.

10/13/12     7:00am - 11:45am     Fish Caught:  1     Water Temp:  73
When I got to the boat landing there were already 15-20 boats that were already on the water. There was a tournament getting ready to start. When they left they all went directly toward the dam. My guess is that they were heading to the boat docks in the Carolina Marina area. I went to the Buffetville cove and within 20 minutes I caught one using a white buzzbait. I didn't do alot of fishing today, I was trying out my dive housing for my GoPro camera to see how some underwater videos would look. I was able to capture a couple of bass along a small brushpile.  After looking at the bottom of the lake I seen one big difference between Lake Hunt and Belews Lake. There are a lot of aluminum cans and bottles at the bottom of Belews Lake. It just goes to show you what kind of people hang out at Belews. Whatever you bring to the lake you should also take back with you. Belews Lake shouldn't be considered a large garbage can. There are a couple of areas on the lake that are covered with debris, either from the current or from just being a favorite hangout.

9/28/12     6:30am - 1:00pm     Fish Caught:  3     Water Temp:  81
Started fishing the Buffetville cove and before it got light I caught 2 using a white buzzbait. I left there and went to various other coves but wasn't able to get a hook set in the bites I had. Before I left I decided to try along the dam using a Rapala DT-10 in the black and white pattern and I was only able to catch one more bass. I tried some of the boat dock in the first cove along the Carolina Marina area but I didn't get any bites.

9/23/12     6:30am - 1:30pm     Fish Caught:  6     Water Temp:  82
Started in the Buffetville cove and I caught one as soon as I got there using a white buzzbait. My buzzbait didn't have a trailer hook on it which was probably the cause for missing five after catching the first one. I left the cove and went up the lake and started using a watermelon/red U-tale Zoom worm. Caught one on the first cast and I caught four more soon afterward.

9/21/12     6:15am - 12pm     Fish Caught:  2     Water Temp:  83
Caught the first fish before 7am in the Buffetville cove using a Lucky Craft lipless crankbait. Went down to the dam but didn't have any luck so I went just above the Carolina Marina. From there I went up the lake and just across the hot hole on the same side of the lake as Humphrey's Ridge and on the first cast I caught the second and last fish of the day. I caught the last fish using a 3.5" swimbait.

1/22/12     11:30am - 3:30pm     Fish Caught:  0     Water Temp:  60
To start with the air temperature was 38 degrees and the wind chill was about 28 degrees. I started fishing the Buffetville cove and the water temperature was 56 degrees. I didn't get any bites so I went under the power lines near the Humphrey's Ridge Marina and then I went to the hot hole. There was one other boat in the hot hole but two boats came in right behind me. Two of the boats were tournament fishermen. They were all throwing a pig and jig but I didn't see any of them catch anything. I threw a pig and jig most of the day myself but I also tried out my new Alabama Rig that I purchased at Bass Pro Shop this past Friday. The entire lure weighs about 2 - 2.5 ounces. I've got it tied on a 7' Heavy action rod with 50 lb Power Pro Braided line. This is probably the last Alabama Rig that I purchase that is already rigged. If I have anymore I plan on making them, they can get quite expensive.

1/8/12     10:30am - 3:15pm     Fish Caught: 0     Water Temp:  58
Started fishing the Buffetville cove and within a half dozen casts I got a bite. I didn't catch anything in the cove so I went toward the hot hole and started fishing directly under the power lines near the Humphrey's Ridge Marina. With a watermelon pig and jig I had one on. It came up and went back down and while it was going back down it came off.
