Lake Hunt Fishing Trips 2011
10/22/11     9:45am - 3:45pm     Fish Caught - 1     Water Temp - 64
Started fishing on the left just above the narrow channel. I talked to a guy that I had met and talked to a couple of times before while on the lake and he caught two shortly after 8:00am. He lives close to the lake and fishes it often so he knows the lake well. I was throwing a jig and a swimbait all morning. I moved to the other side of the lake and started throwing a carolina rig Zoom curlytail black and blue worm. Within a couple of cast I caught one. I wasn't getting any more bites so I moved to the last cove on the right and within about a half a dozen casts I had a big fish on. She was pulling really hard and before I was able to get a look at her she broke my leader about 6-12 inches from the worm. I had several bites on the worm after that but wasn't able to catch anymore.

10/15/11     8:30am - 2:15pm     Fish Caught - 1     Water Temp - 67
As I was going up the lake I saw two deer out in the lake before I got to the first point on the right. I started fishing on the left side of the lake after passing through the narrow part of the main lake channel. Shortly after I started fishing I spotted a raccoon walking along the edge of the lake. I thought it was going to be a cold and windy day today but that wasn't the case. Within 10 minutes on the water I was coming out of my jacket. I caught the only fish of the day after 12:00. I caught it on a pumpkin seed 1/8 oz. jig with a zoom pumpkin seed super chunk trailer.

10/7/11     6:45am - 1:00pm     Fish Caught - depends     Water Temp - 69
At the request of a good friend I'm going to post this days activity. There was almost no wind stirring, only five other boats on the water and it seemed like the perfect day to go fishing. I fished the narrow channel first almost the entire trip and it seemed like every time I got a bite it was just something nibbling on my lure. They had to be small. I used a 1/16th oz., a 1/4 oz. and a 3/8 oz. jig the entire time I was out there. Some time around 10:30 or so I tied on the 1/16th oz. jig and within an hour I had a good fish take it. I did manage to catch one fish today but I only caught it with my camera. She didn't actually get off until she got next to the boat and she went straight down and as she was descending she came off.

10/4/11     2:00pm - 6:00pm     Fish Caught - 1     Water Temp - 70
Today the water was calm but the fish weren't biting. I fished the narrow channel and only had one bite. Just before I got ready to leave I went up the lake and decided to try some topwater. I tied on a Bang-o-lure and within 20 minutes I caught the only fish of the day. As I was working my way back down the lake I started throwing a jig again and I worked the trees along bank on the left hand side just above the narrow channel and I had about a 4 lber on and she came up and threw the lure and I guess she thought she still had it in her mouth because she danced across the water for awhile after she threw the lure. I seen two Bald Eagles just before I started back  down the lake to leave, the male and the female were in a tree nearby. They were in the tree the entire time I was fishing the upper end of the lake, I guess they were watching to see if I was going to catch anything.

10/1/11     6:30am - 2:00pm     Fish Caught - 2     Water Temp -  72.5
Today I fished the same places I fished on my last trip and I didn't get a single bite until I met two guys that were having a really good day. The older guy needed to borrow my scales to see how much his big fish weighed. Their big fish for the day was 5.8 lbs. They showed me what they were catching them on and soon after they left I also caught two using the same type lure. That lure was a 1/4 ounce pumpkin colored jig.  Both of my bass were caught just before the narrow part of the main channel of the lake.

9/24/11     5:30am - 10:45am     Fish Caught - 6     Water Temp - 72.5
Got on the lake well before daylight. Cindy went with me today and she help me net three of the bass I caught. I started throwing a rat'L'trap type lure in an area that I have caught several good size fish before out in open water. I didn't get any bites until daylight when I started throwing one of my galiath lures. I had one on with it but I didn't catch it. When I started fishing the narrow channel in the main lake it started to rain and I started catching bass using a 4" Zoom watermelon seed grub. The rain came down pretty hard several different times and Cindy said it didn't bother her so I kept fishing. I was catching fish and she didn't want to leave. After I caught six bass I moved down the lake closer to the boat landing and started fishing the first point on the left and I had one on but it got off. While we were there the rain picked up again and a large streak of lightning came down so we came on in and called it a day.

8/27/11     5:45am - 9:30am     Fish Caught - 0     Water Temp - 82
This post isn't worth putting on here but I thought you should know that the lake is over 2 feet down. I backed my boat down to the water and it being dark I didn't realize is was so low. As I was getting the boat ready to launch I seen the water level. It had been 2 months since I've been to Hunt and I was determined to fish. I had to pull the trailer past the ramp down into the water and let it drop off the end of the ramp before I could get the boat off the trailer. I forgot to tie the boat off to the trailer and I had to run down the ramp and get on the boat before it floated out into the lake. I barely made it and in when I stepped into the boat I knocked on a spinnerbait that I had laying on the front of the boat into the water. The wind was blowing really bad, about 15 -  20 mph. It was white capping quite a bit out in the main channel of the lake. I eased my way up the lake to the narrow passage about mid way up the lake and started fishing. The wind was blowing so bad that I let it push me into a small cove that wasn't getting any of the wind. There was so much hydrilla floating on the top of the water that had been pushed into the cove that I couldn't fish the cove. I got back out into the main channel and fished the laydown as best I could until I made it down to the first cove on the right. The water was pretty calm in this cove so I fished it as far as I could. Just before I got to the end of the cove I got a bite using a senko. I didn't get the hook set so I threw it back to the same spot and he hit it again. I wasn't able to get the hook set.

6/29/11     5:30am - 11:30am     Fish Caught - 2     Water Temp - 84
I went straight to the last cove on the right and after about 2.5 hours I only had two bites. I went to the narrow passage in the lake and on  the first cast I caught one. Three casts later I caught another one. Both fish were caught using a black w/blue flake senko. I fished from the narrow passage all the way into the back of the first cove on the right and I didn't get any more bites so I left.

6/11/11     5:30am - 11:30am     Fish Caught - 3     Water Temp - 83
I went straight to the last cove on the right and after about 1.5 hours I didn't get a single bite, I did see a doe and her fawn just before leaving this cove. I went to the narrow passage in the lake and I caught two bass within 45 minutes using a black w/blue flake senko. I fished along the shady side of the lake going toward the boat landing and was able to catch one more and missed one also using a senko. All the fish were caught on the shady side of the lake. In about another month the lake will be perfect for catching the big post spawn females on topwater up in the shallow water.

5/14/11     5:30am - 12:15pm     Fish Caught - 4     Water Temp - 68
No one at the lake except myself until around 9 am. The forcast for rain kept some people off the lake today. I started fishing the last cove on the right using my Goliath lure and within ten casts I caught one. I continued along without another bite until I got to where the creek channel comes into the cove. I seen the water swirl next to the boat so I threw my Goliath lure to it and landed my second fish. This fish was busy making a bed, its tail was bleeding quite a bit.  After making a second round around the back part of the cove I moved to a small cove just before going into the last cove and there was an area that had some grass growing in the water so I started throwing a swimsenko and I caught one and its lip had a sore under it. I guess it was also making a bed. I worked my way around to the last cove on the left and and within 30 minutes I caught a small bass using a swimsenko. Sorry, no pictures of the fish, I thought my video camera was capturing everything but I found out I purchased a counterfeit SD card over the internet. Live and learn!!!

4/11/11     2:00pm - 6:00pm     Fish Caught - 2     Water Temp - 66
There were a number of boaters out there today. I went straight to the last cove on the right and there were already two other boats there. I threw a swimbait, a spinnerbait, a lizard and a senko and I didn't get any bites. The last lure I used was a Strike King Baby Rodent Softbait in black with blue flake pattern. First cast and I got a strike but missed it. I continued along for about twenty more minutes and I finally landed the first bass along a small rock wall. Probably the only rock wall in this cove. About thirty minutes later I caught the last fish of the day just before reaching the point as you come into the last cove. There is also a Bald eagle that has taken up residence in the last cove. I probably wouldn't have seen where he is staying if I hadn't seen him flying around as I went into the last cove.

3/21/11     7:45am - 11:45am     Fish Caught - 1     Water Temp - 57
Got to the lake and the gate was open but noone was there. It wasn't until 9:45 when the next boat showed up. I started fishing a point in the last cove and I didn't get any bites. I moved out on the main lake channel and started fishing the point where I caught two on my last trip. I caught one within ten casts using a Gary Yamamoto Senko. The wind was really bad today and I didn't get any more bites that I know of.

3/19/11     7am - 1:45pm     Fish Caught - 5     Water Temp - 59
First one at the lake this morning except for someone that had spent all night catfishing. I started using a Luck E Strike swimbait and I caught two within about 30 minutes. Both were caught in less than two feet of water in the lily pads. By 8:00am I looked back toward the main part of the lake and there were 7 boats in the cove I was in. Lake Hunt is getting alot of fishing pressure. The wind seemed to be in the 5-10 mph range after the sun came up and I moved out on the main lake points and I caught two on the first point I started on. When I got to the next point I caught another one. The bass pictured are the fourth and fifth ones caught. The last three bass were caught on a Gary Yamamoto senko (black with blue flake with no weights).

3/13/11     8:00am - 2:45pm     Fish Caught - 2     Water Temp: 52
I went straight to the last cove on the right and started throwing a swimbait with no luck. I switched to a Zoom watermelon seed Brush Hog  and before I left out of this cove I had three on but I wasn't able to get any of them in the boat. I moved to the first cove on the right and I didn't get any bites. I left that cove and I went back up the lake and started fishing along the left side of the lake and was able to catch two bass using a Brush Hog.

3/5/11     9:30am - 2:00pm     Fish Caught - 2     Water Temp:  54.5
Started fishing the last cove on the right and there was someone in the creek when I got there. I started throwing several different swimbait crankbaits. When I made it to the shallow water I switched to a Luck E Strike Bass Magic Swimbait. I caught my first fish where the lillypads grow each year in this cove. I had about a six lber follow my lure all the way to the boat. That was where the creek channel comes into the lake. Before I left out of the cove I was able to catch one more on the same swimbait. I left and went to the first cove on the right and I had a small one on but it got off.

2/18/11     2:00pm - 5:30pm     Fish Caught:  0     Water Temp:  52
I talked to a couple of guys that were loading their boat as I was getting on the water and they said they didn't get a bite all day. I went up the lake to the first point on the left and I marked alot of baitfish but I didn't get any bites so I moved to the last cove on the right and the warmest water I found was 54.7 degrees in the shallow area on the left side of the cove. I seen two different fish jump but I didn't get a single bite the entire time I was there.
